Some interesting T-Mobile news has surfaced this afternoon ahead of the carrier's official CES press event tonight. Our pals over at TmoNews have been listening in on Citi Global Internet, Media and Telecommunications Conference that's taking place in Las Vegas, and happened to overhear new T-Mobile CEO John Legere provide an update on Magenta's iPhone-toting customers. Legere said that T-Mobile currently serves 1.9 million iPhone users on its network and that 100,000 new handsets are being added each month. T-Mobile announced last month that it would be teaming up with Apple to offer the Cupertino company's products in 2013, and while no specific devices were named, it's expected that T-Mobile will finally begin to officially sell the iPhone this year.

Legere wasn't the only T-Mobile exec speaking at the event, as T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray spoke about his operator's upcoming 4G LTE network. According to TmoNews, Ray said that his operator could launch its 4G LTE network in Las Vegas sometime in the "next two to three weeks." No other details have been spilled yet.

So far T-Mobile has only said that it would begin rolling out its LTE network sometime in 2013 and that trials of the service were underway last summer. As TmoNews notes, though, it wouldn't be a surprise to see T-Mo pick Las Vegas as one of its first LTE markets, as the city was one of the initial homes to both T-Mo's 42Mbps HSPA+ coverage and its refarmed 1900MHz HSPA+ service. T-Mobile is scheduled to kick off its CES press event tonight at 5:30 p.m. PT, and I wouldn't be surprised if LTE was on of the topics that T-Mo plans to cover during its time on stage.
