We're only three days into 2013 and there has been a lot of talk of brand new or up-and-coming mobile operating systems. Just yesterday, Canonical announced Ubuntu Phone OS, which shrinks the power of one of the world's most popular, hardware-agnostic Linux distros into a pocket-sized computer. And this morning, Samsung confirmed that Tizen phones would make their first splash later this year.
But there are a handful of other mobile operating systems that are still searching for a big break. Research In Motion is trying to re-enter the limelight with BlackBerry 10. Microsoft is trying to win over the market with Windows Phone 8. HP recently released Open webOS and will eventually try its hand, once again, in the mobile hardware business. Mozilla has Firefox OS and Jolla is working around the clock on the MeeGo-based Sailfish OS.
There is no shortage of competition, that's for sure. But the space is tightening, and there likely isn't enough room for all these operating systems to "make it". Only some will succeed, maybe only one. Which one will it be, folks? Place your vote for the best up-and-coming mobile OS in the poll below!
