Pick up an iPhone 5 on Verizon today? If so, we've got a nice surprise for you. As discovered by iDownload Blog, Verizon's iPhone 5 comes unlocked for use on GSM networks, meaning that owners can easily pop in a nano-SIM from AT&T or some other GSM carrier and be good to go. Due to Verizon and AT&T's use of different LTE bands, the Verizon iPhone 5 won't be able to hop onto AT&T's LTE network, but there should be no trouble accessing the big blue carrier's 3G coverage. You can check out a video demonstration at the bottom of this post.
In the past, Verizon required that customers with an account in good standing call in to have their phone unlocked. The fact that the Verizon iPhone 5 comes unlocked out of the box is pretty exciting for folks that travel overseas, especially considering that even the devices that are under contract are unlocked. We've yet to get an official comment on the matter from Verizon, but if we hear anything from Big Red, we'll be sure to update you. How many of you picked up an iPhone 5 on Verizon today?
