After months of teasing, Verizon launched its Share Everything data plans at the end of June, giving customers the opportunity to split one bucket of data between several devices. While not everyone got on board with the plans, Verizon says that they've actually been going over pretty well with consumers. As noted by CNET, Verizon CFO Fran Shammo said at a Goldman Sachs conference that many customers are signing up for Share Everything, and that those people are also adding more devices to those plans than the Big Red had anticipated. One of the things that's surprised Verizon the most, though, is how many customers are dropping their unlimited plan to make the switch. "The thing that really surprises us is a lot of people are coming off unlimited to go to share," Shammo said.
On the subject of unlimited, Shammo described the word as one that "doesn't really mean anything." He went on to say that "the whole unlimited thing is going by the wayside" and that customers don't really use as much data as they think that they do. Once they realize that, Shammo said, they're fine with ditching their unlimited plan for one of Verizon's Share Everything offerings.
While Verizon's Share Everything may make for an attractive option for many users, there are also likely some folks that signed up for them because they wanted a new phone and couldn't afford to pay full retail price in order to keep their unlimited plan. Whatever their reasons for signing up, though, it sounds like Verizon's shared data plans are off to a good start, and it doesn't appear that they'll be going anywhere any time soon. Have any of you signed up for a Share Everything plan on Verizon yet?
