Just a week after sharing yet another update on devices that'll soon be joining its lineup, Ting has revealed some more handset-related news on its official blog. The Sprint MVNO announced today that it plans to begin rolling out a "bring your own device" (BYOD) program in the fourth quarter. The program will only be open to Sprint devices, and there are a few handsets that can't be carried over to Ting, such as the iPhone, BlackBerrys and push-to-talk devices. Once the BYOD program goes live, customers will be able to bring their eligible Sprint device over to Ting, so long as that phone isn't under contract. Ting also points out that its devices have always been able to be brought onto Sprint.

While it's kind of a bummer that not every Sprint handset is BYOD-able on Ting, the program still sounds like a good one. It allows out-of-contract Sprint customers to look into moving to Ting without having to buy a new handset, and it also means that anyone interested in checking Ting out can pick up a Sprint-branded device that they've got their eye on that Ting may not offer. While Ting's fourth quarter launch window for its BYOD program is somewhat vague, the company says that it's aiming to kick BYOD off in the earlier portion of the quarter.
