Looks like the first week of September just got a little bit busier. Amazon has begun sending out invitations for an event on September 6, which will be held in California and kick off at 10:30 a.m. Unsurprisingly, the invitation makes no mention of what Amazon might be planning, instead simply asking the receiver to "Please join us for an Amazon press conference."
One of the first things that springs to mind when thinking about this invitation is that Amazon may be planning to introduce a Kindle Fire successor. Not only has the rumor mill been busy cranking out reports about new models that may be in the works, but this event is being held nearly a year after the original Kindle Fire was first introduced. Some new E Ink Kindle models are also a possibility, especially since new versions of those devices also premiered at the Fire event a year ago. We'll have to wait a couple of weeks before we know for sure exactly what Amazon has up its sleeve, but with Nokia/Microsoft and Motorola/Verizon events going down the day before as well as an Apple event rumored to be going down on September 12, one thing we do know is that early September is going to be nuts. Buckle up.
