Less than a week after we saw Motorola take the wraps off of its new "Unlock My Device" page for unlocking the bootloaders of select devices, the company has shed a bit more light on its plans for the service on Twitter. In response to a question about whether or not Motorola would allow older devices (the DROID Bionic, DROID X2 and DROID 3 were named as examples) to have their bootloaders unlocked, Motorola explained that that's "not currently in the plan."
The list of "Supported Devices" on Motorola's unlocking page is fairly slim right now, with only the recently-released Photon Q 4G LTE, European RAZR developer edition and both the Verizon and Wi-Fi-only XOOM variants making the cut. We'll have to take the old "wait and see" approach when it comes to which new devices will be supported in the unlocking program, but for now it looks like anyone hoping to officially unlock the bootloader on an older Motorola device is out of luck. If Moto's plan changes, we'll be sure to give you the heads-up. How many of you care about having a device with an unlockable bootloader?
