RadioShack has been selling mobile phones for the major carriers for a while now, but if a new leak is to be believed, the retailer may be planning to dive into world of phones even further by becoming an MVNO. According to a report from Engadget, RadioShack intends to launch an MVNO dubbed "RadioShack Mobile" that'll run off of Cricket's network and will be of the no-contract variety. A pair of leaked screenshots mention "RadioShack Mobile" and "RadioShack No Contract Wireless" several times, and in one of the images, there's a phone number meant to help new customers get activated that apparently connects callers to Cricket's customer service.
When it comes to plans, RadioShack Mobile will reportedly have offerings similar to those found on Cricket. Another screenshot suggests that the chintastic HTC One V will be one of the devices in RadioShack Mobile's product portfolio, though it's also said that handsets like the Huawei Mercury and Huawei Pillar will join the One V in the MVNO's lineup. A mysterious 4.3-inch Android handset made by Alcatel is reportedly in the pipeline as well.
The possibility of a RadioShack jumping into the MVNO game sounds interesting, especially when it's thought that the service may offer devices like the One V and an Alcatel-made 4.3-inch Android phone. Of course, none of this is official just yet, and RadioShack unsurprisingly simply said that it doesn't comment on rumors when it was asked about this leak. It's not clear exactly why RadioShack may have decided to launch its own MVNO, but perhaps the retailer thought it'd do well offering wireless service with devices that are slightly higher-end than most of Cricket's lineup.
