Hankering for an opportunity to give Microsoft's Surface tablets a go? You'll get your chance at the end of October, as a recent filing made by Microsoft to the SEC has confirmed that the Surface will go on sale on October 26. The document reads that Microsoft will be launching Windows 8 on that date and that "at that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices."
Although Microsoft doesn't specify which Surface model it's referring to in the filing, the company has previously said that the Surface for Windows RT model will be debuting alongside the general availability of Windows 8. The Intel-powered Surface for Windows 8 Pro is expected around 90 days later. There's still no word on how much either slate will cost, but Microsoft the RT version that's due at the end of October will feature a price that's "competitive with a comparable ARM tablet," Microsoft has said, while the Intel variant's price will be competitive with that of an Ultrabook PC. While those are still somewhat vague pricing details, at least folks interested in picking up a Surface now know how much time they've got to save their pennies for one.
