Earlier today AT&T officially announced in its second quarter 2012 earnings that it sold 5.1 million smartphones in Q2, and the carrier also trumpeted the fact that it activated 3.7 million iPhones in that same period. However, AT&T didn't mention sales figures for other specific devices. The folks at Neowin were curious about how many of those 5.1 million smartphones were Nokia Lumia 900s, so they asked AT&T how well its exclusive LTE Windows Phone performed in Q2. AT&T's response? It said that it's "pleased" with sales of the Lumia 900 but that it doesn't plan to offer "a specific figure."
We've heard AT&T offer a similar statement concerning Lumia 900 sales in the past. Back in April, an AT&T executive said that Nokia's handset had exceeded expectations, but he didn't shed any light as to what AT&T's expectations for the Lumia 900 may have been. Nokia's Q2 2012 results showed that it shipped 600,000 phones to North America in the quarter, but the exact portion of those that were Lumia 900s sold by AT&T will likely remain a mystery unless one of the two companies decides to share some specific numbers for the recently-discounted device. How many of you have or know someone that has a Lumia 900 on AT&T?
