HTC has pushed out a number of high-end and mid-range handsets, like the devices in the One line. And according to CEO Peter Chou, the company is going to continue to focus on those types of devices going forward. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Chou said that HTC will continue to focus on mid- to high-end smartphones rather than release low-end options to try and boost its market share. "We don't want to destroy our brand image," the exec said, explaining that HTC focuses on using "better materials" to create a "premium experience." While other companies like Motorola and Samsung are releasing low-end handsets in places like China that cost half of what HTC's cheapest products are priced at, Chou says that HTC won't use "cheap, cheap phones" to boost its share of the market.
HTC's been facing some stiff competition as of late from the likes of Samsung and Apple, but it appears that it won't be changing its strategy any time soon. We'll have to wait to see if that plan works out, but it's admirable to see HTC sticking to its guns rather than creating cheaper phones just to gain market share. What do you all make of HTC's decision and Peter Chou's statements? Do you think its plans to stick to mid- and high-end phones will work out or will the company need to begin cranking out lower-end devices?
