Sony this morning took the wraps off of two new members of the Xperia family of handsets: the Xperia miro and Xperia tipo. Besides the fact that they both bear the Xperia name, the miro and tipo also both feature Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The Xperia miro is the bigger of the two new phones, featuring a 3.5-inch 320x480 touchscreen. It also includes an 800MHz processor, 5-megapixel rear and VGA front cameras, microSD slot and 4GB of internal storage. Sony is also touting the Xperia miro's deep Facebook integration with the phone's contacts, gallery and music player apps.
The Xperia tipo comes with a 3.2-inch display that, while smaller than the Xperia miro, features the same 320x480 resolution. The tipo also includes an 800MHz processor just like the one found in the miro. Other specs for the Xperia tipo include a 3.2-megapixel rear shooter, microSD slot and 2.9GB of built-in memory.
Sony says that both the Xperia miro and Xperia tipo will begin shipping globally in the third quarter, though the company doesn't make any mention of specific U.S. availability. Both handsets look like respectable entry-level additions to the Xperia lineup, and it's good to see that they'll both ship with Android 4.0 preinstalled.
