According to a new report, Deutsche Telekom is considering a merger of T-Mobile with smaller carrier MetroPCS. This rumor comes from "people familiar with the matter" speaking to Bloomberg, who claim that DT is weighing a stock-swap deal that'd see it gaining control over the combined company. Those same sources added that DT is also considering an IPO or straight-up sale of T-Mobile. Both Deutsche Telekom and MetroPCS have declined to comment on the rumor.

This isn't the first time we've heard rumors of one of the major U.S. carriers considering getting together with MetroPCS, as a report began circulating back in February about a potential Sprint purchase of Metro that was said to be shot down by Sprint's board near the deal's completion. It'd definitely be interesting to see T-Mobile and MetroPCS come together, a move that'd add around nine million users to T-Mo and allow it to take advantage of Metro's AWS spectrum. Of course, it's also worth noting that MetroPCS's customers are mainly on the CDMA side of things while T-Mobile is GSM, a fact that'd complicate things for the combined company just a little bit.
