Last we heard, the HTC DROID Incredible was scheduled to get an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread before the end of the second quarter this year. Obviously that never actually happened, leaving many DInc owners wondering when their helping of Google's latest treat would come. Today we may finally know, although the answer probably isn't what most Incredible owners were hoping to hear.
According to an email from an HTC rep named Stephen, the DROID Incredible is not on the company's list of phones that will be updated to Android 2.3. Stephen explains that HTC only updates phones if the new software will improve the user experience, and if this email is to be believed, HTC doesn't believe that Gingerbread would provide enough of an improvement to the DInc to warrant an update. This news, if accurate, is both a disappointing and a little confusing. Despite the fact that the DROID Incredible's specs can't quite stack up to more recent handsets like the Sensation or EVO 3D, the DInc isn't a slouch when it comes to performance. It's possible that the HTC rep misunderstood and is referring to a different device like the Eris. There's also a chance that we'll see a repeat of the Desire update situation from earlier this year where HTC originally said that an update wasn't coming, but then changed its mind and released a new, special update after many customers voiced their frustrations.
