Last week, Virgin Mobile made a big impression on the hearts and minds of Android purists everywhere when it said that vanilla Android was the way to go. Some of that love for Virgin Mobile may be taken back today, though, as the carrier has told PCMag that it doesn't want its users rooting their phones. The full statement from a VM spokesperson:

"We do not endorse in any way end users using a non-officially tested operating system nor do we approve of 'rooting' devices.  This constitutes a violation of our terms of service and puts our network in jeopardy. We endeavor to provide users a customizable Android experience within the limits of the tested and network approved Android OS."

Although this news is unlikely to stop users from trying to root Virgin Mobile's Android phones, it's still pretty interesting to see the carrier taking such a strong stance both on stock Android as well as rooting and hacking.
