Before the Verizon iPhone 4 launched, there was a lot of speculation about the effect that the device would have on AT&T, who had been the only carrier in the U.S. to offer the iPhone to that point. So just how many AT&T iPhoners jumped ship? Apparently not enough to cause ATT to break a sweat. Speaking at a conference in San Francisco today, AT&T CEO Ralph De La Vega said that they "haven't seen any surprises, and everything is pretty much within [their] expectations," although he declined to give up specific numbers. When De La Vega was asked if he thinks the situation will be different later on when iPhone users see their contracts expire, the exec said that because the situation was changing so rapidly, it's simply too early to tell one way or the other.
We won't know exactly how well the Verizon iPhone has been selling until Big Red gives up its Q1 numbers next month, but we've heard one report claim that most of the VeriPhones have been sold to existing iOS users. It's tough to say how many of those were AT&T iPhone owners, but if a mass exodus of users jumping from ATT were to occur, I'd say that it'd be more likely to go down this summer when the new iPhone is released (assuming it comes to both VZW and ATT). That's when many AT&T iPhoners will see their contracts expire, giving them the chance to switch to Verizon and pick up a new iPhone without any fees. What do you all think? Has there been a ton of AT&T iPhone users switching to Verizon, or will that big jump occur this summer, if it does at all?
