The Samsung Galaxy S/Android 2.2 update saga has been long and fraught with rumors of upgrades being held hostage, but it appears that things might finally be coming to an end soon. Speaking with PCMag today, a Samsung exec said that the "major carrier upgrades" for its Galaxy S devices are "imminent," although he didn't get any more specific than that. Recently we've seen the Froyo updates for the Epic 4G and Captivate appear on Samsung's site before quickly being yanked, which lends credence to the exec's claim. Finally, the exec said that Samsung will do better with updates in the future, saying that Sammy wants to "remain competitive" by being quick about pushing out future updates.
Android 2.2 for the Samsung Vibrant has been available for around a month now, which one would think indicates that the updates for the other Galaxy S phones are coming soon. The carriers have been pretty quiet on the situation, though, save for a couple of tweets from Sprint. That hasn't really helped to soothe the peeved Galaxy S owners that are just waiting to be upgraded to Froyo, an update that was announced around nine months ago. I hope that, for Sammy's sake, their exec is right and the updates are actually coming soon. Considering all of the drama that we've seen so far, I'll believe it when I see it.
