The Motorola XOOM finally got an official price the other day thanks to Moto CEO Sanjay Jha, but not everyone is excited about paying $800 for the first Honeycomb tablet. Today Jha defending the XOOM's cost, explaining that the price makes sense when you remember that the device will be capable of accessing 4G networks. We know that the XOOM won't be able to access 4G right out of the gate, but the CEO did confirm that upgrading the tablet to gain LTE capabilities will be free of charge.
While the XOOM's pricing isn't that far off from the comparable iPad, there are still a lot of users that aren't totally sold on the price. While I've no doubt that the XOOM is a nice product, and the $600 WiFi-only model certainly helps things, I feel like Moto would benefit from offering a version of the XOOM that has less storage and shaves $100 or so off the price. The XOOM is set to launch in one week on February 24th, so I suppose we'll find out exactly what the public thinks of its pricing soon.
