There's been plenty of evidence that smartphone adoption is on the rise, but a new report from the IDC is perhaps the best proof of that yet. According to the IDC's report on Q4 2010 worldwide smartphone sales, there were around 100.9 million devices moved in the final three months of last year. Just how many PCs were sold, you ask? 92.1 million, which was a record for the industry, but still fell almost nine million units shy of the humble smartphone.
As smartphones become more powerful and more feature phone users make the jump to smartphones, it seems obvious that smartphone growth will continue to grow quite a bit going forward. We're beginning to even see devices with specs that rival low-end notebooks, and for many users, their handset could replace their computer for a lot of uses (especially if you've got an Atrix 4G and a laptop dock).
