Many expect Apple to launch the new iteration of the iPad in April, following its usual one-year refresh cycle, and a new rumor seemingly confirms those beliefs. According to the infamous "people familiar with the matter" speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Apple has kicked off production of the second iPad. This new model will allegedly sport a thinner and lighter frame along with a quicker processor, increased memory, and a more powerful GPU. Additionally, we can expect a front-facing camera and a resolution that's "similar to the first iPad." Verizon and AT&T have been chosen to offer the iPad 2, says the WSJ's source(s), although they failed to mention a launch date.
Most of this speculation isn't really new, and I wouldn't be surprised if most, if not all, of these features do end up making it into the iPad 2. After all, while the original iPad isn't a bad device by any standard, newer tablets like the XOOM and G-Slate have specs that outshine Apple's first tablet. Once the iPad 2, webOS tablet, and PlayBook all hit the market, though, things are really going start to heating up.
