Thanks to the multitude of iPad 2 mockups we've seen leak over the past couple of months, we've got a pretty good idea of what Apple's next tablet is going to look like when it's finally unveiled.  What we still don't know, though, is exactly when that'll happen.  Digg founder Kevin Rose thinks that Apple will announce the iPad 2 sooner than many of us thought, claiming to have it on "good authority" that the device will be made official in the next 3-4 weeks, possibly on Feb. 1st.  Rose also said that the iPad 2 will feature a "retina display and front/back cameras," although he later updated his story to say that another source informed him that the display will not be of "Retina" quality, but will have a higher resolution than the current iPad.

An iPad 2 announcement on Feb. 1st could make sense for the company considering that it's right around the same time that the original iPad was introduced last year, but I'm not completely sure I buy into Rose's rumor.  Sure, the iPad was unveiled in January last year, but it also didn't ship until April.  Apple is known for its yearly upgrades, meaning that the iPad 2 will likely be launched in April of this year.  I don't know about you, but I can't see Apple announcing the iPad 2 in February and then waiting until April to release it again.  Then again, Apple can be a tough company to predict sometimes, so maybe they'll end up giving us a new product double-whammy by announcing the iPad 2 after Verizon unveils the iPhone next week.  Anyone else feel like making a prediction as to when we'll see the iPad 2?
