On the Verizon Wireless LTE conference call yesterday afternoon, CTO Tony Malone claimed that "...Android really took off when Verizon got behind it." Given T-Mobile's history with the G1 (the first commercially available Android device) and myTouch line, and Sprint's success with the EVO 4G, those are tall words with strong opinions on both sides. On one hand, Verizon's "Droid Does" campaign helped people realize that smartphone options existed outside of the iPhone. On the other hand, T-Mobile's G1 and myTouch line of devices were in the marketplace prior to the launch of the Motorola Droid.
