We already knew that Motorola had decided not to upgrade the DEVOUR to Android 2.1, but today Moto decided to update their Android Software Upgrade Timeline just to drive that point home. Previously, Motorola simply said that the DEVOUR "will not have a software upgrade to Android 2.1," but today the company changed the timeline to say that the device "will remain on Android 1.6 for the best combined hardware and software experience." The updates for the BACKFLIP, CLIQ, and CLIQ XT have remained the same since last time; they're "in testing" and "planned for late Q3/early Q4." Finally, the DROID X's Android 2.2 update is still scheduled for late summer. Considering that there are only a couple of weeks of summer left, hopefully that means we'll be seeing the DROID X's official Froyo upgrade rolling out shortly.
This news is definitely disappointing for those DEVOUR owners out there (however many of you there are), but I'm not terribly surprised. The DEVOUR never really seemed to get much support from either Verizon or Motorola, so my guess would be that Moto decided not to pursue an update for the device due to low sales. Let's just hope that the BACKFLIP, CLIQ, and CLIQ XT upgrades won't suffer the same fate as the DEVOUR's.
