Today at their annual fall music event, Apple unveiled a new, redesigned iPod Touch that includes several all-new features. Two of the biggest additions are the two cameras on the device, just like on the iPhone 4. This allows the iPod Touch to use FaceTime with other iPod Touch or iPhone 4 owners using an email address, just like we heard back in July. The capability showed up in the third beta of iOS 4.1 and will finally hit next week when both iOS 4.1 and the new iPod Touch are made public. The rear camera on the iPod Touch is also capable of taking photos as well as 720p HD video. Other new features on the latest iPod Touch include a Retina Display similar to the one on the iPhone 4, an Apple A4 chip, a 3-axis gyroscope, and a new, slimmer design.
FaceTime definitely helped introduce the general public to the idea of video chat, but the number of FaceTime users has still be somewhat limited due to the fact that it's only been available to iPhone 4 owners. Now that the new iPod Touch, which is Apple's best selling iPod, also boasts FaceTime capabilities, I have a feeling that the number of people that use the service is going to skyrocket. So, how many of you are planning on picking up a new iPod Touch when they launch next week?
