Remember that little OTA update that was pushed to EVO 4G owners yesterday?  With fixes for Wi-Fi and rumored improvements in battery life, it seemed like quite the good deal.  Until it started bricking phones across the nation.  Besides the issues that you'd expect from rooted devices, users from across the US have flooded the tips line, letting us know about their issues.  Besides bricking the device, users are reporting that the software attempts to install twice - once like normal, and again after the software is already installed (in other words, it tries to install over itself).

Needless to say, it's quite the issue, and Sprint and HTC appear to have realized it:

"While the vast majority of consumers successfully downloaded and installed the most recent HTC EVO 4G software update, we have received a handful of reports from customers having some issues with the update. In light of this, HTC and Sprint have decided to temporarily halt distribution of this software release until we can investigate further. We expect to be able to resume software updates shortly."
