Verizon Wireless has stuck with the "Can you hear me now?" tagline for quite a while. If a recent rumor is true, though, the carrier is going to change not only its ad campaign but also its name. Droid-Life and Engadget are both reporting that at a recent Verizon corporate meeting, the carrier announced it would be dropping the "Wireless" from its name and simply calling itself "Verizon." On top of the name change, the company is axing its longstanding "Can you hear me now?" ads for the new tagline "Rule the Air." Finally, Verizon reportedly said that it has no interest in the iPhone 4 and will instead focus on its line of Android devices.
I'm actually surprised that it took this long for Verizon to strike the "Wireless" from its name. I can't remember the last time (besides the beginning of this article) that I heard anyone say "Verizon Wireless" as opposed to just "Verizon." The "Can you hear me now?" tagline, along with the glasses guy that is famous for that line, will certainly be missed, though. As for the whole iPhone 4 portion of the story, I'm sure Verizon would be interested in the iPhone if Apple came to them with a CDMA-capable model. Since that doesn't seem like it will happen any time soon, though, Verizon is making a good move by focusing on Android. The platform is growing by the day and if they won't have an iOS device on their network, they'll continue do well with Google's little green robot.
