In a post earlier today about Sprint finalizing Android 2.2, I speculated that they may be bringing Froyo to their HTC Hero and Samsung Moment devices. Sprint has gone ahead and ended any further speculation, announcing via their Twitter account that while the HTC EVO will get the update to Android 2.2, the Hero and Moment will not. The carrier also said that any future device released with Android 2.1 will get upgraded to Froyo.
While this news is pretty disappointing, it's tough to blame Sprint. With the breakneck speed of Android device launches, it can be difficult to continue to support older devices while focusing on new handsets as well. Both the Hero and the Moment recently got updated to Android 2.1, which means they're more up to date than some other Android devices on the market, like the Motorola Backflip. Hero and Moment owners shouldn't fret too much, because the Android hacking community is still going strong and I'm sure that we'll continue to see new ROMs and features brought to those devices for a long time to come.
