Bell seems pretty excited about their Palm Pre launch this coming week. The Canadian wireless provider has created two promotional vids to hype the device: one for online and the other for TV. And you know what? They look pretty good.
What a difference a country makes. The Pre commercials that ran in the US -- which centered on a pasty-faced lady set against a barren vista -- was strange and esoteric. This one shows a bunch of everyday people on the street reacting to the phone's features. It's fun and does a great job of showcasing stuff that most of us care about.
Check it out:
As for Bell's TV spot (below) -- yeah, it's kind of iPhonesque. (Maybe that's why I like it.) But I laughed out loud at BoyGenius' take on it:
A little side note: Palm, Bell, buddies? When you're rocking an App Catalog that currently offers less than 50 apps, you might not want to rip off Apple's "there's an app for that" run. Yeah, right now on the Pre there really isn't an app for anything.
Okay fine, BGR. At least Bell's TV spot doesn't creep me out. And hey, it actually shows some key features. That's always nice.
PreCentral also notes something in the commercial: Google Maps is rotating. Interesting. Since it's not a feature out of the box, some people are taking this as a hint that Bell's Palm Pre will have WebOS 1.2. (Others just think the ad department got a little too creative when making this vid.) Well, they'll find when the Pre lands at Bell on August 27th.
