Lots of news in the BlackBerry arena today, so be sure to sit tight, buckle up, and stay tuned! The first article details two software-based updates - the new Gmail Plug-In for BlackBerry and Visual Voicemail for the BlackBerry Bold.
Enhanced Gmail plug-in for BlackBerry arrives, proves challenging to download
Launching on Saturday, the Gmail plug-in is supposed to make life a bit easier for those using Gmail. That is, if you can get past the actual download process. I spent part of Saturday (every hour or so) trying to download the application, to no success. For me, it may be because I'm running a version of OS 5.0, but I attempted it on other BlackBerry devices, to no success.
Additionally, the live updates are only running one way: from the phone to the desktop. Any changes made to an e-mail via the computer most likely won't reflect on the BlackBerry side if the BlackBerry Internet Server (BIS) has already picked up the message. That being said, has anyone given it a go and gotten it to work properly? Let us know!
Visual Voicemail coming to BlackBerry Bold
Thanks to a new official OS launch on Tuesday (FINALLY), AT&T BlackBerry Bold users will be able to take advantage of a feature enjoyed by their iPhone counterparts for quite some time: Visual Voicemail. Though the corresponding feature code isn't supposed to launch until Tuesday, several users have reported success in getting the code added early. The rumored OS launch is 4.6.0.266, which I've used before and can confirm that Visual Voicemail is an included feature.
So, if you can't wait until tomorrow, and are desperately seeking Visual Voicemail so you can compete with your iPhone-toting colleagues....er, I mean friends.....call up AT&T customer service and try to add it. The feature code is "BBVV." Good luck!
