Beau HD unboxes the Dell Venue 8 7000, the thinnest tablet currently on the market. In terms of specs, it features a 8.4-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2560x1600, an Intel Atom quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel camera sensor, stereo front-facing speakers, and a slim 6.1mm form factor with a machined aluminum body. In addition, it features the world's first integrated Intel RealSense Depth Camera to create a high definition depth map that enables measurement, refocus, and selective filters with a touch of a finger.
So this is the world’s thinnest tablet, the Dell Venue 8 7000, the model is technically 7840. As you can see there’s an Android on the box to let you know that it does run Android OS, Android 4.4.4 KitKat to be exact, Android Lollipop in the near future supposedly. As for the specs, it packs an 8.4” OLED Full HD display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and 361ppi, Intel Atom Quad core processor, 8mp camera and Intel RealSense 3D technology.
Upon unboxing, you will find the Dell Venue 8 7000 wrapped in plastic as it sits right on top. Beneath it is a micro USB charging cable used to charge the tablet, a US Wall wart to also help charge the tablet, and the usual basic paper work such as its warranty, manual, and regulatory information.
If we take a look back at the Venue 8 7000 and unwrap all that plastic ever so carefully, we’ll see a pretty darn thin tablet that measures in at just 6.1mm thick with a nice aluminum build construction.
Taking a look around the device, we’ll find the Power/Sleep On/Off button and volume rocker on the left hand side. The right hand side reveals nothing but a microSD card slot on the lower portion. The top is empty while the bottom is where a 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB charging port can be found.
The front contains the 8.4-inch OLED display, a large front facing speaker grill with MaxxAudio by Waves next to a 2MP front-facing camera.
The back has a DELL logo plastered onto a very premium machined aluminum body that makes it feel cool to the touch. There’s also the world’s first integrated Intel RealSense depth cameras down below at the bottom that helps create a high definition depth map that enables measurement, refocus, and selective filters with a touch of a finger.
After turning on the tablet, you’ll find a very straightforward setup—there is one page that allows you to pick and choose the apps Dell recommends for installation. When you’re done, you’ll be presented with a near stock Android experience. Although, I will note this is not Android Lollipop -- it’s still Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Apparently, it will be receiving the upgrade to Lollipop in the near future so that is good news. Personally, I’ll be installing the Google Play Launcher just to make things seem more like stock Android. The tablet runs pretty well and the display is very nice to look at. It’s an OLED panel with vibrant colors and very narrow bezels for a tablet.
You’ll also find a quick footage of Google Play Now Launcher running on the Venue 8 7000. A Google Now home screen can be found on the left along with Google fluidity.
