For the mobile industry, 2014 can be considered a good year. With all the different hardware and software developments released, the mobile tech industry has paved way for some of the most outstanding flagship smartphones.
Here are 5 of the best flagship smartphones released in 2014, in no particular order:
LG G3
The LG G3 was released at the end of the first half of 2014, making it the first official smartphone to have 2K Quad HD display other than the Oppo Find 7. Additionally, it was the first 2K display smartphone to hit US shores. Apart from its display, the G3 had a number of good hardware features such as its 2.5 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 chip, 3GB of RAM, 13 MP camera, and a great design to boost.
When it was announced, people thought that the build quality would be a metallic finish. However, it turned out to be plastic. Despite this, the G3 quickly became the favorite of many.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
The release of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus qualifies it as a huge risk that Apple tried out. Considering that their past models were all smaller than 4 inches, the larger display on these two models have indicated that Apple is ready to depart from its small type of smartphones.
While there aren’t too many big changes on the software, these two devices were included on the list because of their impressive design. The iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch IPS panel display while the iPhone 6 Plus is equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD IPS panel display. Apart from display size, these models have a really thin measurement of only 6.7mm.
Moto X (2014)
The Moto X (2014) model marks a huge change from the last generation Moto X. The previous generation had a 4.7-inch display, meanwhile the current model comes with an impressive 5.2-inch display. Other features available on the Moto X (2014) model include a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 chip, 2 GB of RAM, and availability with Android 4.4.4.
The Moto X (2014) is a remarkable smartphone that comes with amazing build quality comprised of metallic frame on its sides and its signature quality materials on the back.
HTC One M8
While it was released in the early part of 2014, the HTC One M8 has retained its reputation as one of the best smartphones of the year. Boasting of its great build quality, the One M8 comes with all metallic finish and all metallic build; making it a sturdy device. It also has a great software support. While the Google Play Edition already runs the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop software, other One M8 models will be compatible with it soon.
The phone is equipped with a 5-inch super LCD3 display and Boom sound speakers that make listening to music an enjoyable past time. Virtually nothing is wrong with the phone except for its dual 4 MP camera, which did not work for a lot of people.
Samsung Galaxy Note 4
The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 has gained a reputation as one of the best smartphones of the year. With its crisp 5.7-inch Quad HD Super Amoled display panel, the phone is a masterpiece for beautiful colors and vivid display. Running on a powerful 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 chip and 3GB of RAM, the Galaxy Note 4 has a lot to offer its users. Not to mention, it comes with a 16 MP camera with OIS feature.
Available with Android 4.4.4, it won’t be long before the phone will be compatible with the latest 5.0 OS version. With the features available on the Galaxy Note 4, it definitely has set a bar for upcoming 2015 devices.
Honorable Mention:
BlackBerry Passport
Despite the fact that BlackBerry is turning into a dead end company, its BlackBerry Passport device has already gained positive feedback from the public. The phone comes with flagship specs, which makes it a notable device.
Nexus 6
The Motorola made Nexus 6 is a beast. With its 5.96-inch screen, the device is already considered as a phablet. The only reason it was not included on the list was because it has an expensive price tag for a Nexus device.
Droid Turbo
The Droid Turbo has specs similar to that of the Nexus 6, which make it a great flagship smartphone device. It also comes equipped with a 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 805 chip with 3 GB of RAM and runs on the latest Android 5.0 OS. The phone also comes with a 5.2-inch panel and an impressive battery life.
Since the Droid Turbo is exclusive for Verizon contract subscribers, it was not included on the list of top smartphones of 2014.
