We have compiled ten of our favorite apps for the month of August 2017. Some of these apps are brand new to the App Store, others have been significantly updated. All of them are awesome. Without further ado, let’s get started.
Jammer is a music app that turns songs into musical instruments that anyone can play. Circles are loops so when you tap on one, it loops a pretty sick beat. Squares are one shots. You can use this knowledge to play around with the sound and create some really cool beats. There’s a bunch of different songs with different preset sounds you can mess around with too.
iTranslate Converse translates your voice in real time. There’s a subscription service that they try to sell you on but you don’t really need it to test it out. And I would recommend you do test it out because it’s pretty cool. Basically, you flip your phone around to have better access to the microphone and what not and speak your phrase while holding a finger down on the display. Release and your phrase will be translated into the language that you select. By default, English will be translated into Spanish but there’s a bunch of different languages you can choose from. This is a must-have app for traveling into foreign countries. I highly recommend it.
Skywall is an app that has a ton of ultra high definition wallpapers and backgrounds. There are over 100,000 different wallpapers and backgrounds to choose from with different categories to sort through. The layout is very simple. All you have to do is just keep scrolling until you find one that you like or you can open the side menu to pick a category.
Super Phantom Cat 2 was recently released and it’s the successor to one of my favorite platformer games. Ari is the cat’s name and Ari is on a journey to rescue his sister, Ina, who has been kidnapped in a mysterious phantom world. What you see is what you get. This game is a lot of fun though.
Cornea is an app that suggests edits to your photos and gives your photos a score based off how popular they will become. Naturally, an app like this is not going to work flawlessly but it’s neat to run a photo through this app before posting to social media just to see what it suggests. You’ll see that filters will change the score. A filter might improve or decrease the popularity score. I feel very confident in my photographer’s eye so I take these recommendations with a grain of salt. But if you feel you need the extra set of eyes or opinion, definitely check out Cornea.
Forest by Seekrtech is a really neat time management application. So here’s the premise: have you ever been addicted to your phone and just cannot put it down? Forest provides an interesting solution to beat your phone addiction. You can plant a seed in Forest. In the following time, this seed will grow into a tree. However, if you cannot resist the temptation and leave this app to check Facebook or play a game, your tree will wither away. With this interesting mechanism, the sense of achievement and responsibility will drive users to stay away from their phone with no pain.
Jazz Smash is like a modern day Fruit Ninja, except with jazz instruments as fruits and tea kettles as bombs. The goal is simple: you basically just hit everything and enjoy the sweet music distraction. You can level up to unlock more items and new bats. It’s a great app to have to pass the time.
Trips by Lonely Planet is a beautiful app that lets you intuitively share your travel experiences. You can upload photos and videos to your timeline then share your trip with your friends, family, and fellow travelers. It has a social media element to it, for sure, but the reason I like it is for discovery. I use this app to discover and be inspired by other places and people I see. If you’re an adventurer/traveler, definitely check out Trips by Lonely Planet.
RaiseMe is not a “fun” app but it’s a pretty important app to know about if you’re a High School student who is about to graduate. I wanted to include this app on the list to stress the importance of scholarships. This app will help you earn no SA scholarships for getting good grades in the classroom, taking the SAT and ACT, taking AP courses, playing sports, volunteering, and more. Hopefully, at least one of you can benefit from this application.
The last app we have for you today is a fun app. It’s a game and it’s called War Wings. This app lets you take to the skies and battle an epic World War 2 dogfight. You can customize your warplane, you can fly solo or team up with your squadron to control the skies. Pull off gravity to fly stunts and tricks. The graphics are excellent and the gameplay is even better. It does take up a lot of storage so make sure you have 1.7GB free and download via Wi-Fi.
With that last one, those are ten of our favorite iOS apps to hit the App Store during the month of August 2017.
