The iPhone 8 is right around the corner. It’s just about a week away and we have a pretty good idea as to what it will consist of. This has been the most leaked iPhone yet. Chances are, you’re somewhat familiar with what the the upcoming iPhone 8 will consist of. It’s hard to ignore the press sometimes.
The iPhone 8 will feature a radically new design. There will be a 5.8-inch O-LED QHD display, finally in the iPhone 8 and it will take up most of the front of the phone. There will be no physical home button and the display will actually be indented up at the top to make room for the front-facing camera and proximity sensors. Meanwhile, the rear will consist of glass to support wireless charging and there will be a stainless steel frame that goes around all four sides of the phone.
In terms of power, we’re looking at the A11 Fusion processor with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage for the base model. But you can upgrade that storage to 256GB of internal storage. But of course that will come at a fee and we’ll talk about that later. There will be no microSD card slot for expandable storage so definitely keep that in mind before you order your iPhone.
It will ship with iOS 11, the latest and greatest version of iOS. But there will be some unique software tricks available for the iPhone 8. Since we won’t have a physical home button, there will be a digital home button in lieu of the physical button. And it’s rumored to function like a trackpad. Users will actually be able to swipe the area on the display to perform different functions. One analyst even suggested that this area could consist of its own display so there will always be a set of Always On static system controls in iOS. The active display would like above these controls and would measure in at 5.1 inches. So while the display should be in a ballpark of 5.8 inches, it could be split up.
Facial Recognition Technology will replace Touch ID and it may actually use to silence notifications when you’re actually looking at your phone. Your phone will be able to detect when you’re looking at it and will silence notifications.
There will be no headphone jack but that won’t really come to as much of a surprise to most people, given how Apple removed the headphone jack last year with the iPhone 7. We should see fast wired charging in addition to wireless charging, which actually might be enabled after launch some time. And it’s possible we might see a USB-C port instead of the lightning port but I’m a little bit skeptical on that report. I mean, don’t get me wrong. I think every phone should have a USB-C port but I just don’t think the timing is quite right for Apple to make that leap. But fingers crossed.
You’ve probably seen the leaked images of the iPhone 8 that show a slightly different stacked camera configuration. Surprisingly, we aren’t expecting too much of a big upgrade to the camera sensors in terms of megapixels. I’m expecting a larger aperture to allow for better low-light photography. There should still be a 12-megapixel main shooter and a telephoto lens with portrait mode available via the camera app.
Actually, the front-facing camera might get the biggest upgrade because it will feature that 3D depth sensing technology that we were talking about earlier, which could usher in new Augmented Reality features.
As for pricing, the iPhone 8 could come in as much as $1000 with higher capacity models costing as much as an Apple laptop. We’re looking at a starting price of around $850 to $900 and then it just goes up from there.
With that said, that is basically everything we can expect to see with the iPhone 8 when it is officially announced on September 12, 2017. I’m really curious to hear your thoughts of the iPhone 8 so let me know what they are in a comment down below.
