As expected, ASUS today took to the IFA 2016 stage to introduce its new Android Wear smartwatch, the ASUS ZenWatch 3.
The first thing you’ll notice about the ZenWatch 3 is that, unlike its square predecessors, this device is round. ASUS is also using a three-button design on the ZenWatch 3, up from the one-button ZenWatch 2.
In terms of specs, the ZenWatch 3 is packing a 1.39-inch 400x400 AMOLED display, Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 4GB of storage. It’s got an ambient light sensor, Bluetooth 4.1, and Wi-Fi, and the whole package is powered by a 340mAh battery with quick charging support.
ASUS will offer the ZenWatch 3 in grey, silver, and rose gold color options, though all three will have a gold accent around the watch face. Pricing in Europe will be €229 ($225 USD), but there’s no word on when the ZenWatch 3 will launch.
Round smartwatches appear to be the “thing” in smartwatches right now, with most every device maker — save for Apple — opting for a round face instead of a square one. That includes Huawei, Motorola, LG, Samsung, Fossil, Casio, and now ASUS. With its round face, the ZenWatch 3 definitely looks more like a traditional watch than its predecessors, including the fact that there’s no “flat tire” on the new ZenWatch like there is on some other round smartwatches.
