After announcing its new flagship Snapdragon 821 processor back in July, Qualcomm today detailed some of the features that its new chipset has to offer.
Qualcomm today said that the Snapdragon 821 offers boot times up to 10 percent faster than the Snapdragon 820, and app load times are 10 percent faster, too. The Snapdragon 821 also offers smoother scrolling and more responsive browsing.
When it comes to raw performance, the Snapdragon 821 offers up to 10 percent faster speeds over the Snapdragon 820, topping out at 2.4GHz. GPU speeds have increased 5 percent, and there’s also a 5 percent power savings.
Finally, the SD 821 has a few new features up its sleeve. That includes the Snapdragon VR SDK, which includes compatibility with Google’s Daydream virtual reality platform. There’s also dual phase detection autofocus for faster autofocus speeds and improved laser autofocus.
The Snapdragon 821 will first appear in the ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe.
While the Snapdragon 821 may not sound like a huge jump over the Snapdragon 820, it does offer several improvements that add up to help make it a faster overall processor. Plus, there’s the included support for Google Daydream, which means that we’re probably going to see the SD 821 in quite a few high-end handsets later this year and early next year.
