Instagram isn’t exactly known for making huge changes to its app design, but newly-leaked screenshots show that the company is testing a refreshed user interface.
While the placement of buttons looks largely the same in this refreshed Instagram design, there are many other changes. The one that probably jumps out the most is that it’s all black and white, giving the app a more modern look than the blue, black, and white design that it has now. Many of the icons been tweaked, too, like those for the Home and Camera buttons.
Instagram confirmed the design change, saying, “We often test new experiences with a small percentage of the global community. This is a design test only.”
The new Instagram test design looks pretty slick and more clean that the one that’s currently in use. It also feels more in line with modern app design, but it also has a bit less personality than the current Instagram app that we’re all accustomed to. Right now it doesn’t sound like Instagram is planning to roll this new design out to everyone, but if it receives enough love, perhaps it could see a full rollout.
