Just as Huawei is in the midst of pushing Android 6.0 to the Huawei Watch, ASUS has started rolling Marshmallow to its own Android Wear hardware.
Several Reddit users are now reporting that their ASUS ZenWatch 2 smartwatches are being updated to Android 6.0, specifically software version 1.4.0.2633150. Perhaps the highlight of the update is speaker support for taking calls over Bluetooth and listening to audio messages. The ZenWatch 2 is currently one of the only Android Wear watches to include a speaker — the Huawei Watch being another — so speaker support is a big deal.
The Android 6.0 update for Android Wear adds several other features in addition to speaker support. Those include new gestures, like shaking your wrist to go back to your watch face from apps, as well as support for sending messages through apps like Hangouts and WeChat.
Just like Android 6.0 is a big update for phones, it’s a big one for Android Wear watches, and it’s nice to see the update hitting more devices. Some owners of the original ZenWatch say that they’re receiving Marshmallow, too, so if you’ve got either of ASUS’s Android Wear smartwatches, be on the lookout for your helping of Android 6.0.
