The BlackBerry Passport will make its big debut on Wednesday, but you don’t have to wait that long to learn how much you’ll have to pay to own BlackBerry’s latest.
BlackBerry CEO John Chen has revealed that the BlackBerry Passport will sell for $599 without a commitment. Chen said that while the Passport should be priced at around $700 because of its features, he thinks that BlackBerry should sell it for less in order to “try and get the market interested.”
The BlackBerry Passport features a 4.5-inch 1400x1400 display and a physical keyboard that doubles as a capacitive touchpad. The device is also rumored to include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a beefy 3450mAh battery.
While it’s interesting to hear that BlackBerry plans to offer the Passport for slightly less than other no-contract smartphones, that alone likely won’t be enough to sway most consumers from the likes of the Galaxy Note 4 and iPhone 6. The Passport’s big, square display and physical keyboard might help, but BlackBerry’s got some stiff smartphone competition heading into the holidays.
