Today’s a big day for Windows Phone and its fans! Not only did Nokia announce that the Lumia 630 — the first device to launch with Windows Phone 8.1 preinstalled — will go on sale this week, but now Microsoft has revealed that an update to the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers is rolling out.
One month after initially releasing the Windows Phone 8.1 Preview for Developers, Microsoft says that it’s now pushing an update to build 8.10.12382.878. The company says that the update brings “several improvements based on the feedback that we’ve received.” Windows Phone head Joe Belfiore went into a bit more detail on Twitter, saying that the update includes bug fixes and battery improvements.
Microsoft has said that Windows Phone 8.1 will begin rolling out to existing Windows Phone 8 devices in the coming months. Thanks to the Preview for Developers app, though, anyone that wants to give Cortana and the Action Center a go before the general public can do so just by registering as a developer and downloading an app from the Windows Phone Store. This gives users early access to WP8.1 and Microsoft a way to work out the update’s kinks before pushing it out to John Q. Public. Sounds like a win-win.
