Time to get out your gavel and judge's robe, because today we've got some more legal news for your consumption. First up, Samsung has filed suit against Apple in France for alleged patent infringement. According to a source familiar with the suit, Samsung's complaint is focused on the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and iPhone 4 as well as the 3G-enabled versions of the iPad and iPad 2. There are reportedly three patents related to UMTS (a type of GSM cellular tech) at the heart of the lawsuit.
Continuing on with the Samsung v. Apple battle, Samsung has officially appealed the injunction that prevents the company from selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany. There's no word yet on precisely what Samsung's appeal will be based on.
Finally, Apple has requested a stay on two lawsuits that it's currently involved in with Motorola. Apple believes that because Motorola is currently in the process of being snapped up by Google, Moto is experiencing a "fundamental loss of [its] patent rights" because it allegedly gave up control of its patents in its agreement with Google, meaning that it can't sue or settle using those patents. Apple has asked that these two cases be put on hold until the acquisition is complete.
And that's your update on some of the legal battles currently going on in the world of mobile. The battle between Samsung and Apple doesn't look like it'll be slowing down soon, as it seems that a new suit in a new country is being added almost every week. The tiff between the two companies in Germany seems to be gaining the most steam, and it should be interesting to see what argument Samsung uses in its newest appeal. Stay tuned.
