LG didn't mention any kind of U.S. availability when it made the Optimus Black official earlier this year, but it looks like Black and its Nova display could be making its way to several stateside carriers in the near future. The first bit of evidence we've got that shows that the Optimus Black is coming  to the U.S. is an entry in the Tera-WURFL database for an LG device with the model number US855 that mentions the Black by name. The "US" portion of that number suggests that that particular version is destined for U.S. Cellular, a theory that's supported by the fact that U.S. Cellular last month declared that it plans to launch an LG Android phone with an "ultra-bright" 4-inch display later this year.

Besides U.S. Cellular, it also appears that the Optimus Black is headed to Sprint, Alltel, and Virgin Mobile at some point. As previously mentioned, the Optimus Black for U.S. Cellular carries the model number "US855." Several other LG versions of the 855 recently appeared in the FCC, although these products are known as the LS855 (Sprint), AS855 (Alltel), and VM855 (Virgin Mobile).

For those that would like a refresher, the Optimus Black features a 4-inch 480x800 NOVA display, single-core 1GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, 512MB RAM, 1GB built-in storage, and Android 2.2. The Black's NOVA screen features 700 nits of brightness, which is brighter than the displays on most handsets. Those aren't terribly high-end specs, but the Optimus Black should make for a nice mid-range smartphone as long as the price is right. There's no word on when any of these products might launch, but we'll keep an eye out for any new information. So what say you, dear readers?
