Most of us here in the U.S. have been spending the last day or two celebrating Independence Day and trying not to blow our hands off with fireworks, but the folks at Samsung have a couple more things to party about this weekend. The firm today announced that its sold three million Galaxy S IIs over the past 55 days, which works out to one one of the Super AMOLED Plus handsets being sold every 1.5 seconds. That makes the GSII Samsung's fastest-selling smartphone ever and puts it on pace to eclipse even the super-popular original Galaxy S.
The Galaxy S II isn't the only Samsung product in the spotlight today, though, as the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is also making the news over the long weekend. Samsung posted a page on its website proclaiming that the Tab 10.1 will soon be getting a software update that not only brings the TouchWiz UI, but several other goodies as well. Some of the new features include a clipboard, preloaded apps like Amazon Cloud Player and Words With Friends, Swype, Samsung Hubs (Music Hub, Movies Hub, etc.), and FindMyMobile, an app that'll allow users to find a lost handset whether it's in the couch cushions or somewhere out in the wild and even completely wipe it if need be. There's no word yet on exactly when the update will be landing, but you can pass the time until it does by reading all of the new features included with it right here.
I'm sure Galaxy Tab 10.1 owners will be split on whether or not the arrival of TouchWiz on the tablet is a good thing, but it's good to see Samsung pushing such a feature-packed update to the device shortly after its launch. As for the Galaxy S II, the feat of selling three million units sold in just 55 days is certainly nothing to sneeze at. As impressive is the number is, though, it's also a reminder that the Galaxy S II still hasn't made its way to carriers here in the U.S. Thankfully that could be changing soon. Who's excited?!
