Today is the final day of Mobile World Congress, and now that the big event is winding down, the Global Mobile Awards are handing out titles for the best mobile apps, phones, manufacturers, etc. In an interesting twist, Apple took home the award for "Best Mobile Device" at MWC 2011 for the iPhone 4, despite having exactly zero presence at the conference. The judges commended the iPhone for its "great screen, sharp design, fantastic materials, and phenomenal ecosystem for app developers." Meanwhile, HTC took home the title of "Device Manufacturer of the Year" for its strong marketing and devices that stretch across several mobile platforms. The HTC Desire was specifically named for being "packed with great features" and "[performing] consistently well."
It's kind of surprising that the iPhone 4 snagged the award for "Best Mobile Device" despite the fact that Apple didn't attend MWC, but I suppose it wouldn't have been right if the company was eliminated from consideration simply because it doesn't like to attend industry events. As for HTC, I've noticed that a lot of people consistently flock to the Taiwanese manufacturer's products, if only to see what they're up to at that point in time, so I'm not shocked to learn that they ended up winning an award. What do you all think of the Global Mobile Awards results? If you were a judge, which phone and manufacturer would you have chosen to win?
