The iPhone Nano is quickly becoming one of the most rumored devices around, and with all of the reports claiming that the device is indeed coming, you'd think that it was a done deal at this point. Not so fast, says "people briefed on Apple’s plans" speaking with the New York Times. Those sources say that while Apple is working on a cheaper iPhone, it won't be "Nano," "Mini," or any other synonym for small. Other tipsters in the NYT report believe that Apple will instead use cheaper internals, like less memory and a lower quality camera, to drive down the cost of a cheaper iPhone. Finally, the sources believe that Apple will be making the next iPhone easier to use with new voice commands.
It's kind of tough to wade through all of the rumors and make a decision about whether or not Apple will actually release a small iPhone, I would certainly be surprised if they do. Apple likes to make things easier for developers by sticking with similar screen sizes, resolutions, etc. Plus, like it says in the NYT report, a mini iPhone could be pretty tough to use. It seems more likely that Apple will stick with what they've done in the past when a new iPhone model was introduced, which is simply keeping the previous model around at a lower capacity and price. Where do you all stand on the iPhone Nano rumors?
