The Verizon and Motorola DROID event may only be a couple of days away, but we still have time for some more Droid 2 leaks. This time, Android and Me has posted a video comparing the new Droid 2 with the original Motorola DROID. Apparently the two devices are "virtually identical," with the major changes being with the keyboard and the internals of the device. Instead of a 550 MHz processor like the first DROID is packing, the Droid 2 comes with a 1 GHz TI OMAP3630. The keyboard still has four rows, but Motorola axed the golden rectangle D-Pad and replaced it with four directional buttons, which is probably a better choice since it gives more room for other keys. The soft buttons on the front of the device have also been changed to match MOTOBLUR. As for the screen and camera, they're both the same as the DROID, at 3.7 inches and 5 megapixels, respectively. Finally, Android and Me expects that the Droid 2 will launch with Android 2.1, but will be updated to 2.2 shortly after launch.
For original DROID owners planning to upgrade to the Droid 2, it sounds like the experience will be rather painless. The DROID was a runaway success for both them and Verizon, so it makes sense that they wouldn't want to mess with a winning formula. I do think that it's strange that Motorola changed the soft buttons on the front of the device to match BLUR since we've heard that the Droid 2 will launch with vanilla Android, but I'm sure there are reasons for doing so.
