The Huawei P30 Pro is going to make its official debut on March 26th, but the company is giving us a small taste of one of its features right now.
The P30 Pro will have a periscope-style zoom camera that'll offer "super-zoom" functionality, Huawei VP of Global Product Marketing, Clement Wong, told Android Central. Exact details of this camera's capabilities and its zoom level weren't shared, but Wong did tease that the P30 Pro's camera will be capable of "something nobody (has done) before."
Huawei CEO Richard Yu appears to have teased the P30 Pro's camera capabilities recently in a photo posted to Chinese social network Weibo. The image, which shows a clear shot of the moon, was taken on-device, handheld, and with no aids, explains Wong. The watermark also hints that the P30 Pro will have a Leica quad camera setup.
Rumors have suggested that the Huawei P30 Pro could have a 10x zoom feature, which would be an upgrade from last year's P20 Pro that offered 3x optical and 5x hybrid zoom. Renders of the Huawei P30 Pro that leaked last week appear to confirm the device will have a quad rear camera setup that includes three snappers and a Time of Flight (ToF) sensor that could help to capture depth info. The leak also showed the P30 Pro with a waterdop notch and what looks to be a curved edge display.
Huawei often places a focus on camera performance with its flagship phones, and the P30 Pro is shaping up to be no different. While we don't yet know much about the P30 Pro's camera capabilities, this periscope "super-zoom" that could offer a 10x zoom sounds pretty exciting. The good news is that we don't have to wait long to find out exactly what capabilities the P30 Pro's cameras will have because Huawei will fully reveal the device in just a few weeks.
