Many folks who are getting a PlayStation 5 this week are probably thinking about selling their old PS4, but today Sony made an announcement that might make you hold on to that PS4.
Sony confirmed today that you'll be able to use Remote Play to stream a PS5 game to your PS4 and play it on the last-gen console. You can already use PS4 Remote Play to access your PS4 games from a PC or mobile device, but soon you'll able to beam games from your new console to your old one somewhere else in the house, too.
"We’re updating PS4’s Remote Play feature," Sony says. "Now, in addition to being able to access your PS4 from a PC or a mobile device, your PS4 can access other consoles via Remote Play too, right on your TV. This includes the ability to connect to your PS5 and stream a PS5 game to your PS4 so you can play it there."
This feature could come in handy if someone else is using the TV that your PS5 is hooked up to. With this Remote Play feature, you could hook your PS4 up to a different TV in the house and play your PS5 games there. Remote Play also allows you to access your PS5 from a PC or mobile device just like you can with a PS4.
Interestingly, this Remote Play feature will also seemingly enable you to play PS5 games with the PS4's DualShock 4 controller. That's because playing PS5 games on a PS5 console requires you to use a new DualSense controller, but that DualSense controller is not compatible with the PS4.
