T-Mobile today flipped the switch on its mid-band 5G coverage in nearly 200 additional cities and towns. This is the second mid-band 5G expansion that T-Mo has announced in the past month, and in that time, T-Mobile has nearly doubled its mid-band 5G coverage.
Included in this latest mid-band 5G expansion are cities like Aurora, IL; Wichita, KS; Newark, NJ; Concord, NC; and Milwaukee, WI. A full list of new T-Mobile mid-band 5G cities can be found at the bottom of this post.
With today's expansion, T-Mo says that its mid-band 5G covers 25 million people in nearly 410 cities and towns. And even though 2020 is starting to wind down, T-Mobile isn't slowing down on its mid-band 5G rollout, with plans to expand its coverage to 100 million people by the end of the year.
T-Mobile's mid-band 2.5GHz 5G offers faster speeds than the low-band 600MHz 5G that T-Mo rolled out nationwide last year. On average, T-Mobile customers are getting download speeds of 300Mbps in areas with mid-band 5G. And while it's not as fast as high-band millimeter wave 5G, mid-band 5G is better at covering long distances and penetrating buildings than mmWave.
You do need a phone that supports mid-band 5G to access this improved coverage. The good news is that there are many devices on T-Mobile that include support. All of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro models work with T-Mo's mid-band 5G, and so does Samsung's Galaxy S20, Note 20, and Note 10+ 5G models. The OnePlus 8T, OnePlus 8, and OnePlus 7T support mid-band 5G, too, and so does the LG V60 and LG Velvet as well as the REVVL 5G and Motorola Razr 5G.
