Android 11 has already started making its way to smartphones, and now it's headed to TVs, too.
Google today announced the launch of Android 11 for Android TV. The update is available to Google's ADT-3 device today and will be rolling out to other Android TV devices over the coming months.
As for what's included, Google says that the update brings auto low latency mode, which allows an app to automatically turn off post-processing to get you lower latency that would be useful for gaming. Google is also adding support for more gamepads to Android TV, including the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller and Steam controller.
Android 11 brings one-time permissions to Android TV, just like on phones, letting you grant an app access to a feature like your microphone or location just once. Performance improvements are packed into the update as are inactivity prompts.
This new update allows for greater control of TV functions, too, bringing framework functionality for system LEDs, physical microphone mute buttons, and OEM configurable wake keys.
The Android 11 update might not be quite as huge for Android TV as it is for Android on smartphones, but there are some nice improvements here that should make using Android TV better, especially if you do any gaming on it.
