Qualcomm today continued its effort to bring 5G to more and more affordable smartphones.

Snapdragon 4-series chips with 5G support are coming in early 2021. Qualcomm isn't saying much else about these new chips just yet, so it's unclear what kind of CPU or modem they'll have or anything like that, but Qualcomm does say that the new Snapdragon 4-series chips will be "truly global" 5G chips.

There are currently several Snapdragon processors that support 5G, including the Snapdragon 865 and 865 Plus; Snapdragon 765, 765G, and 768G; and Snapdragon 690.

These upcoming Snapdragon 4-series chips are notable because they'll bring 5G support to even lower-cost devices. Snapdragon 4-series chips are typically used in phones that cost $200 or $300. This means even more people will be able to experience 5G and its faster speeds.

Also announced by Qualcomm today is its new Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology. Designed for truly wireless earbuds, this Adaptive ANC tech is meant to reduce the reliance on forming a tight seal with an earbud in your ear, meaning you'll be able to block outside noise without having to jam or twist an earbud into your ear.

Qualcomm's Adaptive ANC is included in its QCC514x Bluetooth Audio SoC, which also includes support for things like voice assistants, premium audio quality, and extended battery life.
